Phoenix Ties for Sixth at Great Smokies Intercollegiate

WAYNESVILLE, N.C. – Tara McFadden fired a one-over-par 73 as Elon finished in a tie for sixth place in the 22-team field of the 2008 Cullowhee Café/Great Smokies Women’s Intercollegiate golf tournament Tuesday afternoon on the 5,922-yard Waynesville Country Club course.

McFadden (Tied-16th/74-73–147), Frederique Bruell (Tied-26th/74-75–149), Danielle Mills (Tied-40th/75-76–151), Kelsey Johnson (Tied-40th/74-77–151) and Virginia Mayer (Tied-52nd/77-76–153) all contributed to the Phoenix effort in the 115-golfer, 36-hole tournament. Elon’s Lauren Lebak (Tied-52nd/80-73–153) competed as an individual.

Host Western Carolina (284-294–578) claimed the tournament title, followed by Wofford (293-290–583), Tennessee Tech (292-294–586), Samford (291-297–588), Winthrop (298-291–589), Elon (297-300–597), Morehead State (304-293–597), Jacksonville (299-299–598), USC Upstate (301-299–600) and Akron (305-295–600) in the top 10.

Old Dominion (300-302–602), Austin Peay (301-303–604), Marshall (305-301–606), Gardner-Webb (305-302–607), Belmont (301-307–608), Radford (305-306–611), Western Kentucky (307-305–612), Appalachian State (307-310–617), Mercer (318-305–623), High Point (310-315–625), Mobile (329-320–649) and The Citadel (329-323–652) rounded out the field.
