DURHAM, N.C. – No. 35 Duke pulled out all three doubles matches and then proceeded to sweep the six singles bouts as the Blue Devils defeated Elon 7-0 in the men's tennis dual match season opener for both teams Thursday night at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center.
At No. 1 doubles, the No. 38 combo of Kiril Dimitrov and Alain Michel overcame the No. 49 duo of Damon Gooch and Philip Nemec 8-6. Gooch and Nemec upset Dimitrov and Michel 8-4 Saturday in the Duke Invitational at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center.
The Blue Devils clinched the match following singles victories by Jared Pinsky (6-0, 6-3 over Stauffer MacDowell at No. 4), Wietoska (6-2, 6-1 over Nemec at No. 5) and Arnould (6-2, 6-2 over Helpingstine at No. 3).
Duke closed out the contest with wins by Michel (6-3, 6-2 over Rojas at No. 6), No. 25 Carleton (6-4, 6-3 over Gooch at No. 1) and No. 45 Dimitrov (7-5, 7-5 over No. 120 Podlewski at No. 2).
