Elon Dedicates W. Cecil Worsley III Golf Training Center

ELON, N.C. – With a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony held on Friday morning, Elon Athletics officially opened the new W. Cecil Worsley III Golf Training Center on South Campus.  More than 100 people attended the event which included a tour of the state-of-the-art facility.

Worsley, a 1986 Elon graduate and member of the men’s golf team, presented Elon with a gift during the Ever Elon campaign which funded the facility.  While speaking to the group, Worsley talked about his ever-present thirst and interest in the game of golf, especially in the golf swing.  He said he recognized the need for this type of facility as Elon rose up from the NCAA Division II ranks to the Division I level and then from the Big South Conference to the Southern Conference.

“I’m proud to be a part of this,” Worsley mentioned.  “Elon becomes more a part of me the older I get.”

Worsley stated, “If we we’re going to pull in the level of players we need here, we needed a state-of-the-art facility.  I’ve experienced first hand some training facilities and I wanted to bring that to Elon.”

The training center will serve as the headquarters for both the men’s and women’s golf programs and includes an indoor practice area with hitting bays and a computerized swing analysis center as well as a putting area and players’ lounge.  Outside the facility is a lighted driving range and an area for players to work on their short game on two large practice greens – one made of Bermuda grass and the other of bent grass.

A plaque honoring the achievements and dedication of longtime Elon golf coach Bill Morningstar was placed in the lobby of the training center

Elon women’s coach Chris Dockrill noted, “This is just a huge benefit for our program for two reasons: location and recruiting.”

Said Worsley, “I’m proud to be a part of this and I’m proud of Elon.”
