Dressel in Top-10 at Mizuno Savannah Intercollegiate

POOLER, Ga. --
Stephen Dressel carded a three-under 141 (65-76) during the first two rounds of the Mizuno Savannah Intercollegiate tournament hosted by Georgia Southern to lead the Elon Phoenix into eighth place with a score of 584 (295-289).  Dressel's performance has him in a tie for 10th individually, five strokes off the lead.

Dressel's first round score of 65 was the best out of any of the 81 golfers in the field on day one.  He was two-under on the par three holes and was one-under on the par fours.  Dressel's 11 birdies over the first two rounds were tied for the most in the tournament.

John Somers, who finished the day tied for the best score on par five holes at five-under, is tied for 21st with a score of 145 following rounds of 77 and 68 on Monday.  Tanner Norton posted a first round score of 79 before knocking 11 strokes off his score during his second round for a 68 and a day-one total of 147 to sit in a tie for 35th.

Freshmen Leif Neijstrom and Jack Adkins rounded out Elon's field, sitting in a tie for 55th and 80th, respectively.  Neijstrom posted a score of 151 (74-77) on the day while Adkins carded a score of 164 (81-83).

Florida Gulf Coast leads the 14-team field with a 556 (281-275), which is 20-under par.  Southern Conference rival Wofford sits second at five-under (287-284--571) while Troy (283-290--573), Jacksonville (285-290--575) and Winthrop (291-286--577) round out the top-five teams.

Individually, Wofford's Mark Joye leads the field after two rounds of 68 for a two-round total of 136.  He holds a one-stroke advantage over Florida Gulf Coasts's Daniel Mazziotta and Georgia College and State's Joe Young.
