Final Results
DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Stephen Dressel posted a final-round score of 73 on his way to an overall tournament score of 221 (73-75-73) to tie for 15th individually at the Davidson College Invitational on Tuesday. The Elon Phoenix placed 12th with a three-round mark of 913 (309-298-306). Wofford won the team title with a final tally of 869 (296-280-293).
Elon's next-best showing in the 75-golfer field came from
Jack Adkins who placed 51st with a three-round score of 230 (80-73-77). One stroke back of Adkins was
John Somers who finished 52nd with a total mark of 231 (77-75-79). In a tie for 58th was
Tanner Norton (80-75-79--234) while
Leif Neijstrom carded a 236 (79-80-77) to place in a tie for 63rd.
Wofford's Brent Whitehead took home the individual title, shooting a four-under 212 (71-70-71) for the tournament.
Directly behind Wofford in the team standings were two Southern Conference rivals – Western Carolina (293-296-293--882) and College of Charleston (302-286-295--883). Cincinnati (298-295-293--886) and Guilford (293-290-303--886) finished in a tie for fourth. Two other SoCon programs were in the field. Host Davidson placed seventh in the 13-team event with a score of 891 (302-291-298) and Appalachian State finished 13th with a mark of 926 (298-313-315).
The Phoenix heads back out on the course for the ODU/Outerbanks Collegiate Invitational held in Kitty Hawk, N.C. on Oct. 24-26.
