ELON, N.C. –
The Elon University women’s basketball team (2-1) returns home on Sunday, Nov. 21, for a 2 p.m. contest with the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (2-1) in newly renovated Alumni Gym.  Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for youth 12 and under.

THE SERIES: Coastal Carolina leads the all-time series 11-6 after topping Elon in last year’s meeting in Conway, 61-49. Lei Lei Hairston led the Phoenix in the loss, scoring a team-best 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field. The last time the Phoenix knocked off the Chanticleers was Feb. 10, 2003 in Elon with a 74-58 win.

COMMON THREADS: Elon and Coastal Carolina have two common opponents slated for 2010-11, as the Chanticleers topped both Southern Virginia and College of Charleston earlier this season. Elon will face CofC on Jan. 22 and Feb. 26. The Phoenix hosts Southern Virginia on Jan. 27 at 11 a.m. for Education Day at Alumni Gym. Both Elon and Coastal Carolina are coming off loses to Atlantic Coast Conference opponents, as the Phoenix fell to Virginia Tech, 73-66, on Thursday night, while CCU dropped a 93-37 decision at North Carolina on Friday night in Chapel Hill.

THE BAREFOOT FILE: Elon head coach Karen Barefoot is in her 13th season overall and has a 191-132 career record. In her third season at Elon, Barefoot has a 19-46 mark.

LOOKING BACK: Elon nearly knocked off Virginia Tech on Thursday night in Blacksburg, as the Hokies needed a late 14-7 run in the final 2:51 to come back from 10-points down to top the Phoenix, 73-66. Ali Ford led all scorers with 22 points, while Lei Lei Hairston collected her first career double-double with 11 points and 11 boards.

LOOKING AHEAD: Following Sunday’s contest versus Coastal Carolina, Elon plays its final contest before Thanksgiving when it hosts Virginia Intermont on Tuesday, Nov. 23, at 7 p.m. inside Alumni Gym. It will mark the first-ever meeting between Elon and Virginia Intermont.

DOUBLE YOUR FUN: Sophomore forward Kelsey Evans is putting together an impressive 2010-11 early on, as the Raleigh native is averaging a double-double with 13.3 points and 10.3 rebounds per game through three games. Evans has also registered 11 blocks in three games, including 10 in Elon’s last two contests.
