SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Urysla Cotton of the Elon track and field team picked up Southern Conference Field Athlete of the Week honors as announced by the league’s office. It is the third time this season that a member of the Elon track and field team has been awarded the honor.

In her first collegiate meet and her first meet in nearly four years, Cotton, a former women’s basketball standout, earned the shot put championship at the Coastal Carolina Invitational with a heave of 44’9 ¾”. She dominated the field of shot putters, beating the field by nearly two feet to take home Elon’s only championship of the meet.

Her toss also set a new Elon record, besting the previous record by almost three feet. The mark currently leads the Southern Conference.

Cotton and the Phoenix will return to action on March 26-27 when they travel to Raleigh, N.C. for the Raleigh Relays, hosted by NC State.
