NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Elon University women’s cross country teams has been named a U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic team. It is the fifth time that both Phoenix squads have been named an All-Academic Team by the coaches’ association.
Elon is one of six Southern Conference teams that received the honor. Davidson, Samford, UNC Greensboro, Chattanooga and Wofford were also selected as all-academic teams.
“The team posted a fall GPA of 3.4 and had one of the most successful seasons in Elon history,” said head coach Christine Engel. “An award like this really shows the emphasis that we put on academics. I am extremely proud of the way the team balances its schoolwork and the rigors of being a student-athlete.”
A total of 176 Division I programs earned All-Academic Team status. To be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, a team must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Championship and also have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative GPA.
