AIKEN, S.C. -- Mike Fekete fired an even par 72 in the third and final round of The Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate to lead the Elon men's golf team to a 14th-place finish with a total score of 902 (303-297-302).  Chattanooga collected the team title after a score of 855 (285-277-293) over the three rounds of the 18-team field.

 

Fekete's 72 on Tuesday gave him a three-round score of 221 (73-76-72) to tie for 30th in the field of 90 golfers.  Stephen Dressel tied for 39th, two strokes behind Fekete, with a 223 (69-76-78).

 

Finishing third for Elon was Phil Bartholomew whose 232 (83-73-76) put him in a tie for 66th-place.  Jayson Judy carded an 82 during his final round, bringing his tournament total to 233 (79-72-82) and placing in a tie for 69th.  Scott Hockemeyer's 273 (82-79-76) placed him in a tie for 84th.

 

Trailing Chattanooga in the top-five were Clemson (862), East Carolina (868), Liberty (869) and Virginia (871).  The Phoenix also trailed Southern Conference rivals Georgia Southern (T6th; 872) and Furman (T6th; 872), but defeated SoCon foes Wofford (15th; 903) and College of Charleston (17th; 906). 

 

Elon heads back to the course at the Furman Intercollegiate beginning March 19 in Greenville, S.C.
