Phoenix Makes Short Trip to Greensboro for Bout with Spartans

ELON, N.C.
– The Elon men’s basketball team will make its third trip of the year to the Greensboro Coliseum when it challenges the Spartans of UNC Greensboro in a Monday night Southern Conference battle. The Phoenix (7-8, 1-3) is looking to make it back-to-back league wins after earning a 67-54 victory over Samford on Saturday evening. Tip-off between the Phoenix and Spartans is set for 7 p.m.

Chris Long needs just 16 points to reach 1,000 points with 984 career points.
• Elon has won three of its last four games.
• The Phoenix has stepped up its performance on the boards as of late, especially on the offensive end. Elon is averaging 12.3 offensive rpg in the last four contests.
• Elon has done a good job defending the three-point shot in the last four contests. Elon’s last four opponents are a combined 19-of-67 (.284) from long range.
• Rookie Lucas Troutman has had at least one block in the last five contests. He has a team-best 19 blocks this season.
Drew Spradlin is averaging 18.0 ppg against SoCon opponents this year — for his career he averages 10.1 ppg and has hit 59 three-pointers against league foes.
Chris Long has had five or more assists in six games this year, including four of the last five contests. He is averaging 6.2 apg in those games.
• Coupled with improved free throw shooting, Elon has focused on getting to the line. The Phoenix has shot 20+ free throws in each of the last four games. Against Samford on Saturday, Elon went to the line a season-high 34 times.
Drew Spradlin needs just four three-pointers to move into a tie for eighth on Elon’s career three-point list.
Chris Long is third on Elon’s all-time career assists list with 411 helpers. He needs 23 assists to take over second place.
• Elon’s four scholarship freshmen are all averaging double-figure minutes.

LAST TIME OUT
• Elon got is first-ever victory over Samford on Saturday, scoring 67 points. In the previous four contests against the Bulldogs, Elon had averaged only 44.5 ppg. Samford was allowing only 62.7 ppg heading into the game.
• The Phoenix scored 38 first-half points while limiting the Bulldogs to 20 points.
Drew Spradlin had a season-high 26 points, draining 11-of-14 free throws.
• Elon limited Samford to 35.4% shooting — the Bulldogs were shooting 44.0% on the season.

A LOOK AT THE SPARTANS
• Elon will play at the Greensboro Coliseum for the third time this season when it challenges the winless Spartans.
• UNCG has lost its last two games by a combined nine points.
• The Spartans have played a challenging schedule with games against six ACC foes.
