Carroll Selected to Academic All-America Team

ELON, N.C. – Senior midfielder James Carroll has been named to the Capital One Academic All-America third team. Carroll owns a 3.98 GPA as a double major in computer science and physics. Carroll is just the second Elon men's soccer player to receive the prestigious recognition, joining Steven Kinney who was a third team pick in 2009.

Carroll was on the ballot for Academic All-America honors after collecting first-team Academic All-District III accolades earlier this season. The Phoenix has had a player named to the academic all-district team in each of the last three seasons with Carroll earning second-team recognition a year ago.

A two-year captain, Carroll has been a staple in the Elon midfield since his rookie season. He scored two goals and tallied three assists this year, including an assist in Elon’s 2-2 draw at Duke last week. He scored the final goal of his career in Elon's first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance at 11th-ranked Coastal Carolina.

The Charlotte, N.C. native earned SoCon All-Freshman accolades in 2008 and has been a member of the Southern Conference Honor Roll, Academic All-SoCon, Dean's List, AD's Honor Roll and President's List selection in his career. Carroll was chosen as one of 25 Southern Conference student-athletes to receive the Coleman Lew Leadership Award and was named to the NSCAA Men’s Scholar All-South Region first team as a junior. Carroll has also earned the SoCon Commissioner's Medal for academics.
