ELON, N.C. -- Fresh off a series sweep of Appalachian State to open Southern Conference play, the Elon Phoenix baseball team will return to Latham Park on Tuesday evening to take on the East Carolina Pirates at 6 p.m.
Elon enters the game with a 12-5 overall record and has won four consecutive games while ECU, which is 11-4, saw its five-game winning streak snapped on Sunday.

Series History
Elon currently sports a 30-34-1 record against East Carolina. The Pirates have won six straight in the series.
On Deck
Elon will hit the road for five consecutive games beginning with a weekend set at Western Carolina. The Phoenix will then play two contests at Clemson before returning home to take on Samford.
SoCon Starts
Elon is now in its eighth season as a member of the Southern Conference. The Phoenix has compiled a 8-0 mark in its SoCon openers after defeating Appalachian State 10-4 in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday. Elon has also never dropped an opening series in SoCon play after having swept ASU over the weekend.
Closing it Out
Since 2007 Elon has been very good at closing out games. The Phoenix has gone a combined 143-11 (.929) when leading after seven innings and 147-12 (.925) when holding a lead following the eighth inning.
Three-Baggers
In game two of Elon’s doubleheader sweep of Appalachian State on March 12, the Phoenix legged out three triples. It marked the first time Elon had three triples in a game since Feb. 27, 2009 at Appalachian State.
In the March 12 doubleheader, Elon actually totaled five triples.
From Back to Front
After making 90 career appearances out of the bullpen and amassing an Elon and SoCon record 37 career saves, senior
Thomas Girdwood made his first career start in Elon’s 11-2 win over Saint Joseph’s on March 9.
Girdwood tossed five scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, walking three and striking out three to get the victory.
400
Elon’s 6-2 victory over Wright State on March 5 marked the 400th win of the program’s tenure at the NCAA Division I level. Elon’s first year of Division I play was the 2000 season.
