Round 1

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -- Martyna Mierzwa shot a three-over 75 in her first-ever Southern Conference Championship round to sit in a tie for second individually after Sunday's first round of play.  The Elon women's golf team sits fifth among the 10-team field with a score of 321.

Mierzwa, who was one-under on both the par-three and par-five holes, made a tournament-best four birdies and totaled nine pars on Sunday.  She is tied for second with Appalachian State's Rumbidzai Masamvu and is one stroke off the lead which is held by Chattanooga's Emma de Groot.

In a tie for 18th among the 50 golfers in the field was Shannon Prunty who also had nine pars.  Prunty finished her first round with a score of 79.

Virginia Mayer shot an 83 after parring 10 holes to sit in a tie for 32nd.  In a tie for 35th was the Elon duo of Tara McFadden and Lauren Lebak who both shot an 84 on Sunday.

Chattanooga (303) finished the first day with an eight-stroke edge over UNC Greensboro (311) for the team lead.  College of Charleston (313) sits third while Furman (320) is fourth entering Monday's second round of play.
