ELON, N.C. -- Elon junior women's golfer
Virginia Mayer was recognized as a second-team Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District III selection to the at-large team on Thursday. Mayer carries a 4.00 GPA in accounting.
Mayer is Elon's first women's golfer to collect this accolade as she claimed one of the 13 spots on the second team. The at-large teams encompass numerous sports.
Mayer was recognized earlier this month with Elon's A.L. Hook Scholar-Athlete award which is bestowed upon both the male and female junior or senior athletes that sport the highest GPA among the more than 350 Phoenix student-athletes.
On the links, Mayer participated in 10 tournaments for the Phoenix, garnering four top-seven finishes. Over her 27 rounds, she averaged a 76.26. Her best round of the year was a 70 at the Great Smokies Collegiate where she placed in a tie for fourth individually with a two-round score of 142. Her performances helped Elon eight top-10 team finishes in 10 events.
Mayer is the sixth Phoenix student-athlete to collect all-district honors this year, joining women's soccer player
Brittany Hallberg, men's soccer player
James Carroll, volleyball player
Sarah Schermerhorn, football player #A.J. Harris
and men's basketball player Drew Spradlin#.
