Final Draws
ELON, N.C. – After a brief rain delay this morning, the Elon University women’s tennis team wrapped up the Elon Fall Invitational this afternoon at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
The Phoenix won both the A-1 and B-1 singles flights, as
Jordan Johnston and
Frida Jansaker played one another in the A-1 final, while
Viviana Stavreva and
Briana Berne advanced to the B-1 final.
Elon also won the A-1 and A-2 doubles flights. Johnston and Jansaker claimed an 8-2 win over Campbell’s Ana Ortiz and Karolina Chemaya, while
Bryn Khoury and
Maria Camara Ruiz recorded an 8-2 decision over Campbell’s Tamara Stanic and Natasha Afridi. Camara Ruiz also made it to the A-2 singles final, but dropped a hard-fought decision in three sets (4-6, 6-2, 6-3) to USC Upstate’s Taylor Cohen.
The Phoenix returns to action on Oct. 5-7 for the Wake Forest Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C. Johnston and Jansaker will compete in the 2012 Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif., on Oct. 4-7 after earning a prequalifying doubles spot.
