Final Results
POWELLS POINT, N.C. -- In its third of four fall tournaments, the Elon men's golf team recorded its third consecutive top five showing as the Phoenix finished tied for fifth at the 18-team Old Dominion / OBX Collegiate on Tuesday. The maroon and gold's final total was 859 (287-282-290).
Pacing the Phoenix was
John Somers who recorded 13 birdies over his three rounds of play to tie for fourth individually with a four-under mark of 209 (70-69-70).
Somers was followed by
Will DiIanni who posted his best round of the tournament on Tuesday. DiIanni wound up in a tie for 27th out of 93 participants with a three-round score of 217 (74-71-72).
Thanks to 13 birdies,
Jeff Krieger placed in a tie for 36th after carding a 220 (72-71-77) over his three rounds.
Jack Adkins' 221 (71-71-79) earned him a tie for 46th. Also with a 221 was
Stuart Kaufman who posted rounds of 77, 73 and 71.
Marshall's Logan Lagodich earned medalist honors following a one-hole playoff with Old Dominion's Jamison Randall and VCU's Rocky Khara. All three had finished with a three-round score of 207.
No. 78 VCU rallied from fourth place to claim the team title with an 843. The Rams recorded a 271 on Tuesday, the lowest round by any team in the event.
Between the Phoenix and top spot on the leaderboard were Maryland (852), No. 96 Hartford (853) and Marshall (857). Elon tied for fifth with host Old Dominion.
The final event of the fall for the maroon and gold will come Nov. 3-5 at the Wendy's Kiawah Classic hosted by Charleston Southern in Kiawah Island, S.C.
