KIAWAH, S.C. -- The Elon men's golf team knocked two strokes off of Sunday's first-round score and moved up two spots on the leaderboard at the 2013 Wendy's Kiawah Classic on Monday. The Phoenix now sits ninth in the 18-team event with a mark of 598 (300-298) with one round remaining.
Jack Adkins continued to pace the maroon and gold as he shot a second-round 73 and held in a tie for sixth individually. Adkins has a two-day score of 144 (71-73) and sits at even par.
Will DiIanni is five strokes back of Adkins with a 149 (75-74) and is tied for 24th out of the 96 participants.
After shooting a 74 on Monday,
John Somers moved up to a tie for 54th with a tournament total of 154 (80-74). He is followed by
Raphael Higuet who is tied for 65th with a score of 156 (79-77) and
Jeff Krieger who has a 157 (75-82) and is tied for 69th.
Marquette's Nick Nelson is -7 with a 137 (70-67) to hold the individual lead with one round to play.
No. 28 South Carolina is pacing the field. The Gamecocks hold the lead with a mark of 569 (283-286). The remainder of the top five includes Marquette (588), Presbyterian (589), No. 44 Missouri (592) and No. 51 Winthrop (593).
Elon does lead No. 54 Minnesota which is 12th with a 606.
