Round One
DANIEL ISLAND, S.C. -- The 11-team Southern Conference Men's Golf Championship began play at the Ralston Creek Course in South Carolina on Sunday with the Elon squad shooting a 312 to sit fifth.
Three Phoenix golfers posted first-day scores of 77 to sit in a tie for 13th individually -
Jack Adkins,
Will DiIanni and
Jeff Krieger.
Adkins was three-over and posted two of his three birdies on the front nine on his way to a 77. He finished one-under on the par-five holes and eight pars.
DiIanni finished his first round of play with four birdies, including three on the front nine, and seven pars. His four birdies were tied for the second-most during Sunday's opening round.
Krieger achieved his 77 with 11 pars, tied for the fourth-most in the 55-player field, and one birdie over his 18 holes.
Elon's other two participants -
John Somers and
Stuart Kaufman - both shot a first-round 81 and are tied for 34th.
Somers was two-under on the par fives and notched three birdies and nine pars. Kaufman finished with seven pars and two birdies during his first round of the tournament.
Davidson's Todd Eckstein's round of 71 has him in first place in the individual standings, but nine others are within four strokes.
Davidson also holds the lead as a team after a first-round 297. The Wildcats lead 48th-ranked Chattanooga by one stroke.
Round two of the tournament will be played on Monday.
