Elon-Appalachian State Series History
Elon has dominated the all-time series against Appalachian State on the diamond as the maroon and gold owns a 61-14 ledger against the Mountaineers.  The two teams first met in 1940 with Elon claiming a 9-3 victory.  The programs have met every year since 2003, one season before the Phoenix joined the Southern Conference.  In SoCon play, Elon has won 24 of the 28 games.  The Phoenix won two of the three games at Latham Park in 2012 and swept the three-game set in Boone in 2011.

Tough Competition
Elon always plays a tough schedule and 2013 is no different.  Through its first 39 games, the Phoenix played eight games against teams ranked in the top 25 at the time of the game.  Of those, seven have been against teams rated in the top eight.  No other SoCon team has played more than four games against top-25 opponents.  The maroon and gold’s schedule is currently ranked as the 40th-toughest in the nation.  College of Charleston’s strength of schedule is second-best in the SoCon at 43.

Among the Nation’s Best
In the most recent release issued by the NCAA, four Elon players rank among the Division I active leaders in various categories.  Senior Alex Swim currently is Division I’s active leader with 907 at bats, is third with 274 hits, fifth with 223 games played, fifth with 18 sacrifice flies, 15th with 154 RBI and 34th with 145 runs scored.  Senior Niko Fraser rates 33rd with 11 triples, while senior Nate Young’s 18 saves are currently 26th nationally.  Junior Ryan Kinsella’s 141 RBI are 32nd and his 30 homers are ninth among current players.

Another Webb Gem
Senior righty Kyle Webb had an impressive outing in a 9-1 victory over Georgia Southern.  Webb tossed the second complete game of his career, needing just 111 pitches to finish off the Eagles.  Webb did not walk a batter and allowed just one hit, an infield single, after the fifth inning.  He also posted a personal-best 11 strikeouts in the win, running his total to a team-high 68 K’s on the season.
