Silverman and Kaufman Win Doubles Title at Summer Tournament

ELON, N.C. – Elon University men's tennis players Cameron Silverman and Jordan Kaufman won the doubles championship at the McDonald's Mid-Atlantic Open Clay Court Championships on Sunday, July 14.
 
Last weekend, Silverman and Kaufman, seeded third in the tournament, topped two of the best collegiate players in recent memory, taking down former University of Virginia standouts Michael Shabaz (formerly ranked No. 1 in the nation) and Sanam Singh (formerly ranked No. 2 in the nation) in doubles action at the McDonald's Mid-Atlantic Open Clay Court Championships at the Salisbury Country Club in Midlothian, Va.
 
Trailing 5-2 in the third set, Silverman and Kaufman claimed five straight games to win the set, 7-5, and secure the match victory (5-7, 7-6, 7-5) over top-seeded Shabaz and Singh and the doubles title.  In singles play at the same tournament, Silverman claimed two wins to advance to the quarterfinals before falling to Shabaz in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
 
Earlier this summer at the PNC Men's Futures tournament in Pittsburgh, Pa., Silverman picked up a three-set win (6-7(4) 7-6(4) 6-4) over Pavel Kranik of Canada to earn his first ATP point and a professional ranking. After dropping the first set, 7-6 (4) and falling behind 4-0 in the second set, Silverman caught fire and came back for the win over Kranik. Currently, Previously, Silverman registered three wins in the qualifying draw to earn a spot in the main draw. Silverman advanced all the way to the second round of the main draw before falling to Shabaz, 6-4, 6-2. Shabaz went on to win the PNC Men's Futures singles title.
 
Silverman's next competition is the ITF Futures Pro tournament, July 29-August 4, at the Fairview Park Tennis Complex in Decatur, Ill.
