Final Draws
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Jordan Johnston and
Frida Jansaker won their doubles flight at the Wake Forest Fall Invitational today, Sept. 29, as action concluded at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Today in the A Doubles championship, Johnston and Jansaker defeated Wake Forest's Gardiner and Zhang, 8-3. The Elon senior tandem won three matches prior to the championship match. The duo defeated App State's Cox/Zupan (8-3), UNCG's Franco/Grinberg (8-2) and Maryland's Bredikhina/Bredhikina (8-6).
In the C Doubles championship, Elon's
Tolley Rice and
Viviana Stavreva topped Wake Forest's Bercyte/Forman, 8-5. Previously, Rice and Stavreva defeated Winthrop's Amrani/Aguado (8-1), Stetson's Meregalli/Gonzalez (8-5) and Davidson's Held/Brunner (8-6).
Stavreva had an outstanding singles tournament for the Phoenix, advancing all the way to the E Singles championship. Stavreva won three straight matches heading into today, before dropping a hard-fought 6-4, 6-2, decision versus East Tennessee State's Jess Brumit in the finals.
Johnston won two singles matches in the winner's bracket of the A Singles draw before falling in the semifinals to Davidson's Bree Moniz-Soares, who won in the championship today. Johnston advanced to the third-place match this afternoon, but dropped a tough 6-4, 7-5, decision to Wake's Kimmy Guerin.
The Phoenix returns to action on Oct. 17-21 in Chapel Hill, N.C., for the ITA Carolina Regional.
