2015-16 Track and Field Schedule
ELON, N.C. – The Elon University women's track and field team released its 2015-16 schedule as announced by Elon Director of Track and Field and Cross Country
Mark Elliston on Wednesday, Oct. 21. The slate features seven indoor meets and a total of nine outdoor competitions highlighted by the Colonial Athletic Association Outdoor Championships in Elon on May 6-7.
"I'm very excited about this year's schedule and what it will bring to this group," said Elliston, the reigning CAA Women's Coach of the Year. "We put together a very competitive schedule at some really great meets during the indoor and outdoor season. That high quality competition is going to help us prepare for both the (Eastern College Athletic Conference) Indoor Championships and CAA Outdoor Championship."
Elon opens the 2015-16 indoor season at the nearby JDL Fast Track Complex in Winston-Salem, N.C., for the JDL College Kickoff Classic on Dec. 5. After the winter break, the Phoenix begins the 2016 calendar year back at the facility with the Wake Forest Invitational on Jan. 16.
The Phoenix will then compete at the UNCG Spartan Team Challenge on Jan. 24. On Jan. 29-30, the team will be split up, as select members will compete at the Darius Dixon Invitational in Lynchburg, Va., while others will travel back to Winston-Salem, N.C., for the Camel City Invitational.
After meets at the Spire Institute Division I Challenge in Geneva, Ohio, on Feb. 12-13, and the Penn State Tune-Up on Feb. 20, the Phoenix will gear up for its second ECAC Indoor Championship meet on March 4-5, in Boston. The NCAA Indoor Nationals will follow on March 11-12, in Birmingham, Ala.
The Phoenix kicks off the outdoor campaign at the Shamrock Invitational on March 18-19, in Myrtle Beach, S.C., followed by the prestigious Raleigh Relays on March 25-26. The maroon and gold will split again on April 1-2, for meets at the High Point VertKlasse and the Liberty Multi's meets.
Following competition at the Tennessee Relays on April 7-9, and at the N.C. A&T Aggie Invitational on April 15-16, the Phoenix hosts its lone regular-season meet of the year, the Phoenix Invitational on April 23. Last year, the maroon and gold hosted its first outdoor meet on its campus in nearly 10 years.
Elon will then host the 2016 CAA Outdoor Championships on May 6-7, inside the Jerry and Jeanne Robertson Track and Field Complex. The Phoenix will have a chance to defend its conference championship on its home field after becoming the first Elon program to win a CAA title in its inaugural year in the league last season.
After the Aggie Last Chance meet on May 15, in Greensboro, N.C., the season comes to a close with the NCAA East Preliminaries on May 26-28 in Jacksonville, Fla., and the NCAA Outdoor Championships on June 8-11, in Eugene, Ore.
