Elon Men's Golf Announces 2016 Spring Schedule

FULL 2016 SCHEDULE

ELON, N.C.
– Elon men's golf coach Don Hill announced today, Dec. 2, a spring slate of six spring tournaments for his Phoenix squad, which includes the CAA Men's Golf Championships.

"The 2016 spring schedule offers up new and exciting challenges for our golf program," said the third-year head coach. "There are a lot components that go into creating a schedule. I feel we've done a good job mixing tremendous competition with memorable experiences for our student-athletes."

The maroon and gold compete in three states throughout the spring season. Four events will take place in North Carolina, one tournament out west in Arizona, and the other in South Carolina.

"Trips to Phoenix, Ariz. and Pinehurst, N.C. highlight great opportunities for us to face totally different course terrain and shot values," explained Hill. "We will also be competing against great teams at Clemson and NC State, which in turn should help us learn about ourselves as we build steam heading into the CAA Championships."

The Phoenix will open its spring season at the Loyola Intercollegiate hosted by Loyola University (Md.) in Phoenix, Ariz., Feb. 28 - March 1, at the Palm Valley Golf Club.

Elon's next event will be the Pinehurst Intercollegiate hosted by at the Pinehurst Golf Club in Pinehurst, N.C. on March 11-13. Later in the month, the Phoenix will head to the North Carolina shore for the Seahawk Intercollegiate hosted by fellow CAA school UNC Wilmington for the third consecutive season. That tournament will be contested March 20-21 at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C., with the first two rounds of 36 holes being played on day one and the final 18 on day two.

In the month of April, Elon will take part in three golf events. On April 1-3, the maroon and gold will travel to the The Cliffs at Keowee Falls golf course in Salem, S.C., for the Clemson Invitational hosted by the University of Clemson. The tournament will consist of a competitive field of teams, which include Louisville, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Furman, UNC Greensboro, UNC Wilmington, Winthrop and Clemson.

Following the trip to South Carolina, the Phoenix heads to the Wolfpack Spring Intercollegiate hosted by NC State at the Carol Johnson Poole Club House in Raleigh, on April 16-17, another two-day tournament with 36 holes on the first day followed by the final round of 18 holes on day two.

Elon will wrap up the month of April for its second appearance in the CAA Championships. That event will be held April 24-26, at the St. James Plantation in Southport, N.C.
