Men’s Tennis Travels For South Carolina Swing

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University men's tennis team hits the road for its first road matches in over a month on March 24 and 25, when the Phoenix will take on College of Charleston and USC Upstate, respectively.
 
The Phoenix is 5-2 in its last seven matches against the Cougars, who left for the Colonial Athletic Association in 2013 after 15 years in the Southern Conference. First serve from the College of Charleston Tennis Center in Mt. Pleasant, S.C., is scheduled for 3 p.m. on March 24.
 
Elon is looking for its first-ever win against USC Upstate after suffering losses in 2010 and 2013. The Phoenix and Spartans are set to start at 2 p.m. on March 25 in Spartanburg, S.C.

LOOKING BACK: Elon improved its record to 6-9 with a 7-0 sweep of James Madison on March 21, its first of the season.
 
LOOKING AHEAD: Elon will travel to face former Southern Conference rival Davidson for an April 2 match before returning home to battle Charlotte on April 4.
 
STREAKING PHOENIX: Stefan Fortmann and Josh Luck each extended their singles win streaks to four matches on March 21 against JMU. Fortmann earned a three-set win against the Dukes' Robert Stirling while Luck topped Miljan Ruzic, 6-4, 6-1, in straight sets.
 
HEAD COACH MICHAEL LEONARD: Leonard is in his 11th season as director of tennis and head men's tennis coach at Elon. He is a five-time recipient of the SoCon Coach of the Year award, having won the honor the last two seasons. Leonard guided the Phoenix to back-to-back SoCon titles in 2013 and 2014, as well as a second NCAA Tournament appearance in 2014.
 
ROAD TO WILLIAMSBURG: The Colonial Athletic Association men's tennis tournament will take place in Williamsburg, Va., April 16-19. This season is Elon's first in the CAA after 11 years in the Southern Conference. While in the SoCon, the Phoenix won regular season titles in 2006, 2007, 2011, 2013 and 2014, and captured the SoCon Tournament title in 2007 and 2014.
