Charlotte Upends Elon to End Streak at Seven

Agate

CHARLOTTE, N.C. –
The Elon University women's tennis team saw its seven-match winning streak come to an end following a hard-fought 4-3 decision to the Charlotte 49ers on Friday, April 3, Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex. Elon drops to 12-6 with the setback, its first since March 7.

The Phoenix took an early 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point in dramatic fashion against the Niners. Erica Braschi and Taylor Casey upended Tyler Baker and Macy Vonderschmidt, 8-7 (12-10), to claim the doubles point and a 1-0 match lead. The Braschi/Casey tandem is now 10-1 on the year.

But Charlotte responded from that point forward, taking 4-of-6 singles matches to secure the win.

Olivia Lucas continued her impressive rookie campaign with a 6-4, 7-5, win against Chalotte's Victoria Pahlett on court one to improve her singles record to 10-5. Lucas has reeled off five straight wins and has been victorious in eight of her last 10.

Kirsten Ward was victorious for the maroon and gold at No. 2 singles, topping Vonderschmidt in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5. Ward has won three straight singles matches.

Elon returns to home on April 7 against Davidson.
