Camel City Day One Results

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Elon University women's track and field team was back in action on Friday, Jan. 29, for day one of the prestigious Camel City Invitational at the JDL Fast Track Complex.

Elon's Tereza Novotna became the latest Phoenix athlete to qualify for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Indoor Championships with her second-place finish in the 3,000-meters. The Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic native ran a time of 9:47.82 in the race and becomes the fourth Elon individual athlete to qualify for the ECACs. Elyse Bierut (10:02.32) and Shelby Cuddeback (10:08.84) also competed in the 3,000-meters and were 10^th and 11^th, respectively.

Jen Esposito was third overall in the 400-meters with her time of 56.09 and was the second overall collegiate runner in the race. Desiree Ross and Samantha Brown followed for the Phoenix with times of 59.17 and 59.39, respectively.

Megan Kirschling was tied for third overall in the high jump with a cleared height of 5' 6.5" (1.69m). Carrie Abraham was tied for fourth in the long jump with her best leap of 17' 5.25" (5.31m). Lydia Laws also earned a spot into the top-10 of the long jump with her mark of 17' 3.25" (5.26m).
 
Sydney Griffin qualified for the second round of the 60-meter hurdles tomorrow after running a time of 8.60 on Friday, 11^th overall. Laws also joined her with her time of 9.04.
 
Meanwhile, at the Darius Dixon Invitational in Lynchburg, Va., Emily Dixon earned wins in the indoor pentathlon's 60-meter hurdles (9.09) and high jump (5' 5.75") and was seventh in the shot put with her toss of 31' 9.50" (9.69m).
 
Elon concludes the second and final day of the Camel City Invitational tomorrow, Jan. 30, with events beginning at 9 a.m.
