Braschi Earns Runner-Up Finish at Florida ITA Summer Circuit

FINAL RESULTS

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Rising Elon University women's tennis junior, Erica Braschi, earned a runner-up finish falling in a third-set tiebreak to Georgia Tech's Rashida McAdoo at the University of Florida Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Summer Circuit, July 23-25, at the Ring Tennis Complex.

Braschi fell 0-6, 6-4, 3-10 to the Yellow Jackets' McAdoo in the championship after earning impressive victories in the quarterfinals and semifinals against players who play regularly for teams that had a top-50 ranking in the final 2015-16 ITA team rankings. McAdoo, the circuit champion, finished No. 108 individually in the final ITA singles rankings for the 2015-16 season. Georgia Tech finished No. 16 in the final ITA team rankings last season.

After cruising in the first round and the round of 32, Braschi faced off against Kimmy Herrock, one of James Madison's 2016 All-CAA honorees and No. 3 singles player. Herrock also finished with 16-4 mark in dual match singles last season. Braschi went on to defeat Herrock, 6-0, 6-1, earning a spot in the quarterfinals.

Facing against Jaclyn Switkes, a No. 5 and 6 singles player for ITA No. 49-ranked Illinois, Braschi earned a hard-fought 6-2, 2-6, 10-8 victory in the quarterfinals. She would then be set for a semifinals match-up against Florida's No. 6 singles player, Peggy Porter.

Braschi mounted a comeback after falling in the first set to defeat Porter of the ITA No. 3-ranked Gators, 3-6, 7-5, 10-5, earning a spot in the championship against McAdoo.

After being shut out in the first set 0-6, Braschi bounced back to defeat McAdoo in the second set, 6-4, forcing a third-set tiebreak in the championship match. However, McAdoo clinched the title with a 10-3 third-set tiebreaker win.

Braschi continues from where she left off last season. The All-CAA First Team singles player finished with a 15-4 mark in singles play for the Phoenix in 2016, primarily playing at the No. 2 position. The Dorado, Puerto Rico native also earned All-CAA Second Team honors in doubles play with Taylor Casey.
