FINAL RESULTS
ELON, N.C. – The Elon University men's tennis team took down College of Charleston 5-2 at home Thursday afternoon. The win was highlighted by a doubles sweep as well as an epic match clinching point on court one.
"It's a great win for us against a good College of Charleston team," said head coach
Michael Leonard. "This shows that we are moving in the right direction and continue to get better. It feels good to end our homestand on a good note before we head to Hawaii."
The Rundown
The Phoenix came out swinging against a strong Charleston doubles lineup and it payed off with a doubles sweep to give Elon a 1-0 lead.
Petar Tomic and
Chris Humphreys started things off with a 6-2 win on court one.
Neal Port and
Salvador Mijares followed suit on court three with a 6-2 victory of their own to clinch the doubles point. On court two,
Felipe Sarrasague and
Taylor Foote played a marathon match which would eventually lead to 7-5 win to finish off doubles play.

In singles, Charleston claimed the first win of the afternoon on court five, with
Jacob Bicknell falling 6-4, 6-2. That would tie the score at 1-1 before Elon would take the lead in the match for good. On court four,
Louis Rico would win 6-3, 6-3 to give the Phoenix a 2-1 lead, which would then be extended by Humphreys on court six as he earned a 6-2, 7-6 (7-1) win.

Elon clinched the match on court one, with Sarrasague climbing back from a 4-3 deficit in the second set to win 6-2, 6-4 and secure the victory for the Phoenix.

On court three, Tomic battled back from a 1-6 first set loss to win the second set 6-2 and force a third, where he would come out on top 6-4 and extend the Elon lead, 5-1. The match closed on court two, where Mijares would fall 2-6, 6-4, 7-10 in a third set tiebreak to bring the final score to 5-2.

Notes
-Elon finished 2-2 over their streak of four home matches.

Felipe Sarrasague clinched the match on court one against Charleston's Juan Estevarena, who owns a team best 7-4 singles record this season. Sarrasague is 11-5 in singles this spring season and has won four straight matches.
-Elon now leads the all-time series 10-9 against College of Charleston.
- The Phoenix improves its season record to 6-2 in matches played at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
