HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Elon University women's track and field team kicked off competition on the first day at the VertKlasse Meeting on Friday, March 31, at Vert Stadium.
Sophomore
Chelsea Smith was Elon's top finisher in the 1,500-meter run at 12
th with a time of 4:41.11. In the 5,000-meter race, rookie
Sophia Tasselmyer earned a top-five standing in the event with a time of 17:44.66.
Ellie Bennett and
Nicole Karabas both had cleared heights of 10' 8" (3.25m) in the pole vault with Karabas tying her personal-best. Bennett finished eighth overall while Karabas was 10
th after needing more attempts to clear.
In the shot put,
Bre'anna Warren was third with a toss of 44' 11.75" (13.71m) while teammate
Bryanna Hames was fourth with a throw of 43' 9.25" (13.34m).
Carrie Abraham garnered a top-five finish in the long jump after a season-best leap of 18' 2.5" (5.55m). Hames was the top finisher for the Phoenix in the women's "B" hammer throw with her heave of 149' 6" (45.57m).
The Phoenix closes out the meet tomorrow, April 1, with events kicking off at 9 a.m.
