Today was the final day of the 2017 Pan American Junior Track & Field Championships in Peru. Team USA saved the best for last and had a phenomenal day. In the men's 1,500-meters, Eric van der Els and Cooper Teare won the gold and bronze medals for Team USA. Eric hung back from an aggressive mid-race surge by the Canadian runners, but ran a brilliant closing 400-meters as the Canadians tired and he finished in a championship record time of 3:43.16 (equivalent to 4:00 mile). On the women's side, Sarah Edwards won gold in the steeplechase, while Alex Harris and Michelle Magnani won bronze in the steeplechase and 1,500-meters respectively. To close out the meet, Team USA won both 1,600-meter relays, with the men setting a WORLD JUNIOR RECORD in the process! Team USA earned a total of 54 medals, which ranks among the best all-time team performances in Pan American Junior Track & Field Championship history.

Tomorrow, Team USA will visit Chan Chan, which is the largest pre-Columbian city in the Americans, and the largest adobe city in the world. Afterwards, we will head to the airport and begin our overnight travels back to the United States.
