ELON, N.C. – Elon University football student-athletes Olisaemeka Udoh and Warren Messer have been named STATS FCS All-America honorees Tuesday, Dec. 18, with Udoh earning Second Team accolades and Messer picking up Third Team laurels.
 
While Udoh's honor is his first All-America nod, Messer has now been named an All-American in back-to-back seasons after picking up a Second Team nod from STATS FCS following the 2017 season.
 
Udoh was a mainstay on Elon's offensive line throughout his career in starting all 45 games, including all 11 this year at right tackle. This season, Udoh helped Elon amass an average of 199.5 yards per game on the ground to finish second in the conference in the category. He also blocked for a running game that scored 22 of the team's 31 touchdowns on the season and played a big role in keeping the quarterback upright with the offensive line allowing just 16 sacks on the season. After the campaign, Udoh received invites to both the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl and the East-West Shrine Game.
 
Messer's third-team honor comes on the heels of a season in which he led Elon with 93 tackles – 44 solo – with 11.0 for loss and 4.0 sacks on the way to earning First Team All-CAA Football honors. Three times on the season Messer recorded double-digit tackles with his season high coming to open November against Rhode Island, where he had 14 tackles, 2.5 for loss and 2.0 sacks. He also returned his lone interception of the year 86 yards for a touchdown in the win over the Rams and was named STATS FCS National Defensive Player of the Week for the performance. Before the season, Messer was named to a trio of All-America teams, including STATS FCS.
