Elon Holds Alumni Gym Celebration in Front of Sold-Out Crowd

ELON, N.C. – In front of a standing-room-only crowd last night, Feb. 24, the Elon University Department of Athletics celebrated nearly 70 years of history inside Alumni Gym with a special halftime recognition of men's basketball alumni from generations dating all the way back to the 1950s.

During intermission, Elon President Leo M. Lambert and Director of Athletics Dave Blank welcomed back former men's basketball standouts Scott Quakenbush (1951-52), Dewey Andrew (1960-63), Richard McGeorge (1968-70), Brian Branson (1986-88), Chris Kiger (1995-98), Adam Constantine (2007-10) and Lucas Troutman (2011-14). Watch the video below for the full celebration.

Alumni Memorial Gymnasium (Alumni Gym) was dedicated on January 14, 1950. The facility honors Elon alumni who lost their lives in World Wars I and II. The retired jerseys of Jesse Branson '65 and Tommy Cole '72 hang from the Alumni Gym rafters.  Branson is Elon's all-time leading scorer, having netted 2,241 points in his career.  Cole ended his career in the maroon and gold with 2,214 points, ranking second in program history.

This is the final season of Phoenix sports inside Alumni Gym, as both basketball teams and the volleyball team will compete in the 5,100-seat Schar Center beginning in 2018-19.
