ELON, N.C. – Home for the first time in 2018, Elon University women's lacrosse will welcome High Point to Rudd Field on Thursday, March 1, at 6 p.m. The game is the first home contest for the Phoenix after opening the 2018 season on the road at No. 20 Duke, No. 14 Virginia and No. 18 Notre Dame.
VENUE CHANGE
Thursday night's game against High Point has been moved from Rudd Field to Rhodes Stadium. Game time is still set for 6 p.m.
THE SERIES
Elon leads High Point 3-1 and has won three in a row in the series since falling in the opener in 2014. The Phoenix is 13-4 all-time against current Big South opponents. Last season,
Stephanie Asher and Anna Vitton each tallied twice to lead Elon to a 14-7 victory over the Panthers at Rudd Field on Feb. 19.
SCOUTING HIGH POINT
The Panthers enter Thursday's game after opening their season with three in a row at home against the likes of Furman, North Carolina and James Madison. High Point beat Furman 17-6 in its season opener before falling to UNC 14-10 and JMU 13-11 at Vert Stadium. Darla Poulin leads High Point thus far with nine goals and three assists for 12 points. Ashley Britton has picked up a team-high 11 draw controls. Jill Rall has started all three games in the cage for High Point, allowing 13 goals per game thus far while making 16 saves on the year in 120 minutes of action.
LAST TIME OUT
Elon raced out to a 7-3 lead after the first 30 minutes, but couldn't hold on as Notre Dame stormed back to take an 11-9 victory on Sunday, Feb. 25, at Loftus Sports Center in Indiana.
Maeve Cowley scored three times, falling one short of matching her career high. Six other Phoenix scored and
Alexis Zadjura caused four turnovers. Elon opened the afternoon scoring each of the game's first three goals. After Notre Dame cut the lead to one at 3-2 after a timeout, the Phoenix ran again with a 3-0 run to go up 6-2 with 13:04 to play in the opening half.
PACING THE NATION
With 146 career goals,
Stephanie Asher ranks eighth among active players nationally. The senior from Glenelg, Md., has tallied six times this year, including five in the season opener against Duke. She is just two goals behind Kelsey Murray of Stanford for seventh on the list. Stanford visits Rudd Field on Sunday, March 4.
PRESEASON HONORS
Stephanie Asher became the first player in program history to earn Preseason All-America accolades when she was named an Inside Lacrosse honorable mention in early February. The recognition came on the heels of Asher and
Alexis Zadjura being named Preseason All-CAA honorees. Asher has now been a Preseason All-CAA honoree three years in a row and Zadjura was an honorable mention in 2017 before making First Team in 2018.
ADDITIONS ABOUND
