Hames Sets Program Mark at Camel City Invitational

ELON, N.C. – Senior Bryanna Hames established a new program-mark in the indoor shot put as she and the Elon University women's track and field team concluded its split weekend at the Camel City Invitational and at the Darius Dixon Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 3.

A day after members of the Phoenix's distance medley relay team set a new school-record in the event at the Darius Dixon Invitational, Hames rewrote the program's record book in the indoor shot put at the Camel City Invitational. The Charlotte, N.C., native had a toss of 49' 7.75" (15.13m) – breaking Charlise Morgan's four-year record of 48' 6" (14.78m) – and was third overall in the event. Hames also qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Indoor Championships.

Skylar Barthelmes was 15th overall in the shot put with her toss of 40' 8.75" (12.41m) while freshman Charlotte Bradsher rounded out the Phoenix competitors with her mark of 36' 1.25" (11.00m).

At the Darius Dixon Invitational at Liberty University, junior Katie Arbogast had a top-10 finish in the 400-meters with her personal-best time of 57.95. Lauren Brzozowski was 19th with her time of 1:01.11.

Melody Burke was Elon's highest finisher in the high jump with her mark of 5' 3.25" (1.61m) and was seventh overall. She also the Phoenix's top jumper in the long jump with a 16' 8" (5.08m) and set a new personal-best in the triple jump with her leap of 38' 3.50" (11.67m) – finishing seventh overall.

Kelly McCarten was Elon's lone representative in the one-mile run with the first-year athlete crossing the line with a time of 5:26.70. Another freshman, Rachael Wesolowski finished in the top-10 in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:42. Teammate Sami King just finished outside of the top-10 with her time of 10:43.57.
