Elon Continues Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament Against Furman On Tuesday Night

ELON, N.C. – The Phoenix is back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 26, for a 7 p.m. matchup with Furman at Schar Center. That game will be streamed live on FloSports.

COVERAGE
Listen to the Elon IMG Sports Network coverage on Phoenix All-Access or on the TuneIn app. Taylor Durham and Brian Morris will have the call from Schar Center, with the pregame show beginning at 6:30 p.m.

THE MATCHUP
• This will be the 18th time that Elon and Furman have met in a regular season contest, with Elon leading the series 11-6.
• Furman, who was ranked No. 25 at the time, defeated Elon 98-77 in their most recent meeting on Dec. 4 of last season.
 
ABOUT ELON
• So far this season, Elon is off to a 2-4 start, with both wins on the year coming at Schar Center.
• Elon's two victories this season have come by a combined 47 points – six vs. Mars Hill and 41 vs. Milligan.
• The Phoenix is led by senior guard Marcus Sheffield who is posting 18.7 points per game to go along with 5.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists per contest.
• Hunter Woods and Federico Poser are combining to average 18.6 points and 9.1 rebounds per outing.
Simon Wright leads the team in rebounding at 6.3 per game, adding 6.0 points per game as well.
• In its most recent outing, Elon fell to Manhattan 69-65 at Schar Center. Marcus Sheffield led the Phoenix in scoring, tying a season-high with 24 points, also adding seven rebounds in the contest.
• Hunter Woods also played a key role for the Phoenix, contributing a new career-high 21 points (5 threes) and six rebounds in 32 minutes of action.
• Prior to its meeting with Manhattan, the Phoenix fell to No. 5 UNC 75-61 on Wednesday, Nov. 20. Elon led the Tarheels by as much as nine and took a 33-32 lead into halftime.
• Marcus Sheffield led the Phoenix with 19 points, four rebounds and three assists in the contest, while Hunter Woods chipped in a then career-high 18 points and seven rebounds as well.
• Elon University men's basketball had six players score in double figures en route to a dominant 95-54 win over Milligan on Friday, Nov. 8.
• The Phoenix was led by senior guard Marcus Sheffield who scored 11 points, while grabbing six rebounds and dishing out a Phoenix program record-tying 11 assists on the evening.
• Elon also got a major boost from junior forward Simon Wright, who tallied a career-high 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the floor. Wright added seven rebounds to his stat line while also coming away with three steals for the Phoenix.
• Kris Wooten and Zac Ervin also played big roles for the Phoenix in Friday night's win over Milligan. Wooten finished with a season high 15 points, adding three rebounds, four assists and three steals in the win. Ervin dropped a career-high 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting, including 3-of-6 from beyond the arc.
• Elon defeated Mars Hill 90-84 in its season opener to secure the first win under the direction of Mike Schrage.
• Elon is led by first year head coach Mike Schrage, who spent two seasons as an assistant at Ohio State before becoming Elon's head coach.
• The Phoenix have no seniors on the roster with the exception of graduate transfer Marcus Sheffield, who earned a Preseason All-CAA honorable mention.
• Additionally, the Phoenix made six new additions to the squad for 2019-20 in first-year players Hunter McIntosh, Hunter Woods, Zac Ervin and Ben Daugherty, while also adding two transfers in Marcus Sheffield (Stanford) and Jerald Gillens-Butler (Butler).
• Elon's two additional losses on the season have come two against Power 5 opponents in Georgia Tech and Michigan.
 
LOOKING AHEAD TO 2019-20
• Elon's 107th season of basketball continues this Tuesday, Nov. 26, when the Elon Phoenix remain at home to take on the Furman Paladins as part of the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament. The contest will be the program's seventh regular season basketball game under head coach Mike Schrage, and will take place at Schar Center in Elon, N.C.
• Following that contest, the Phoenix will round out the tournament on Nov. 28 (Thanksgiving Day) against UT Arlington at Schar Center.
• During its non-conference slate, the Phoenix plays host to six home contests, which includes a four game homestand against Manhattan, Furman, UT Arlington and Kennesaw State that begins this weekend.
• Elon opens CAA play with a home contest against William & Mary on Dec. 30.
 
SCOUTING FURMAN
• Furman is a Division I institution out of Greenville, S.C. that competes in the Southern Conference (SoCon).
• The Paladins are off to a 5-1 start this season, boasting wins over Gardner-Webb and Loyola Chicago respectively. Furman's lone loss on the season came on the road against Alabama, 81-73.
• Furman is in its third season under head coach Bob Richey, who led the team to 25-wins and a berth into the National Invitational Tournament (NIT) last season.
• The Paladins are led by senior guard Jordan Lyons, who leads the team in scoring at 17.0 points per game.

UP NEXT
Elon will remain at home to take on UT Arlington. That matchup is slated to begin at 12 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 28.
