THE MATCHUP
• This will be the 45th time that Elon and Mars Hill have faced each other in program history, with Elon trailing the series 23-21.
• Mars Hill defeated Elon 98-82 in their last matchup in 1996-97, which came before Elon moved to the Division I level.Â

• The Phoenix lost four of its top six scorers, including its 2018-19 leading scorer
Tyler Seibring (16.5 ppg, 5.9 rpg).Â
• Elon is led by first-year head coach
Mike Schrage, who spent two seasons as an assistant at Ohio State before becoming Elon's head coach.
• The Phoenix have no seniors on the roster with the exception of graduate transfer Marcus Sheffield, who earned a Preseason All-CAA honorable mention.
• Additionally, the Phoenix has six new additions to the squad for 2019-20 in first-year playersÂ

Ben Daugherty, while also adding two transfers in Marcus Sheffield (Stanford) and
Jerald Gillens-Butler (Butler).
• The Phoenix has been predicted to finish 10th in the league as the CAA released its preseason men's basketball poll on Oct. 9, during the conference's digital media day. Hofstra was picked the favorite to win the league.
• Elon defeated IUP 79-71 in overtime in their home exhibition matchup with the Crimson Hawks.

LOOKING AHEAD TO 2019-20
• Following Tuesday's opener, the Phoenix will be back in Schar Center on Nov. 8 against Milligan. Elon will then hit the road for the next three contests against Georgia Tech (Nov. 11), Michigan (Nov. 15) and UNC (Nov. 20), respectively.
• During its non-conference slate, the Phoenix will host six home games, which includes a four-game homestand against Manhattan, Furman, UT Arlington and Kennesaw State.
• Elon opens CAA play with a home contest against William & Mary on Dec. 30.

SCOUTING MARS HILL
• Mars Hill is a NCAA Division II institution out of Mars Hill, N.C. It competes in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC).
• The Lions, who finished the 2018-19 season with a 9-19 overall and 3-17 in the SAC, are led by senior Ja'Shawn Brooks, who averaged 20.0 ppg and 5.3 rebounds last season.
• MHU are led by head coach Vic Finora, who is in his third season with the program.
