BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Elon University women's tennis fell in close match against the Campbell Camels, 4-3, on Thursday, Feb. 28, at the Nisbet Tennis Center.
 
The Phoenix (6-6) fell behind early in doubles and was able to level the match at 1-1, but Campbell (5-6) won three straight singles matches to clinch the victory. Elon earned singles victories from Uma Nayar, Olivia Archer and Maria Paraja.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
Campbell took the early 1-0 lead in the match with a clinch of the doubles point. After the Camels won on court one, Maria Paraja and Alex Koniaev earned a 6-2 win on court one. But the host would respond and clinch the point with a narrow 7-5 win on court three.
 
In singles action, the Phoenix leveled the match at 1-1 as Nayar claimed a 6-2, 6-3 win on court three against Lea Cutura. However, Campbell would win three straight singles matches in the order of courts four, one and five to clinch the win and take a 4-1 lead in the match.
 
After the match was decided, Archer and Paraja closed out the contest with wins on courts six and two, respectively. Archer picked up her team-high sixth victory of the season with a 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 defeat of Inma Ramon at the No. 6 position. Paraja closed out the match with a three-set victory over Ana Castillo on court two.
 
UP NEXT
The Phoenix closes out its road swing on Thursday, Feb. 28, with a contest at Campbell. That matchup is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
