RICHMOND, Va. – Elon University women's lacrosse first-year attacker
Kaley Thompson was named the CAA Rookie of the Year on Thursday, May 2, in the conference's postseason honors announcement. In addition to Thompson's honor,
Shannon Horan and
Quinn Daly each picked up Second Team All-CAA honors.
Â
Thompson is the second Phoenix to earn the CAA Rookie of the Year award in the team's five years in the conference, joining
Stephanie Asher's 2015 recognition. It also marks the third conference Rookie of the Year honor in program history with
Sloane Kessler winning the award from the Atlantic Sun in 2014.
Â
In her first season, Thompson is second on the team with 31 goals to go with seven assists for 38 points. She's also collected a team-best 59 draw controls and has 16 ground balls. During the season, she was twice named CAA Rookie of the Week and her behind-the-back goal on the road at No. 23 High Point was recognized as the top play of the night on SportsCenter's Top 10 Plays.
Â
A CAA All-Rookie Team honoree in 2016, Horan has been named a Second Team honoree after serving as Elon's defensive stalwart throughout the 2019 season. Through the regular season, she's started all 17 games, leads the team with 15 caused turnovers and is third on the team with 20 ground balls and 19 draw controls.
Â
Coming off her rookie season in which she was named to the 2018 All-Rookie Team, Daly earned Second Team recognition this season after scoring 12 goals with three assists for 15 points. She is second on the team and leads all field players with 28 ground balls and has caused 13 turnovers with 13 draw controls. All three of her assists came in the same game on the road at No. 23 High Point, falling one short of matching the program record for most helpers in a game.
Â
Heading to the CAA Tournament for the fourth-straight season, fourth-seeded Elon will take on top-seeded James Madison on Friday, May 3, at 4:05 p.m. on Lax Sports Network. The winner will advance to Sunday's title game against second-seeded Towson or third-seeded Hofstra at 12:05 p.m. on LSN.
