ELON, N.C. – Elon University men's basketball will be back in action on Thursday, Jan. 16, to continue CAA play against Drexel.

THE MATCHUP
• This marks the 13^th time in program history that Elon will take on Drexel
• In the most recent meeting, the Dragons defeated the Phoenix, 67-63, on Feb. 2, 2019.
• The overall series between Elon and Drexel is currently tied at 6-6
 
ABOUT ELON
• So far this season, Elon is off to a 5-13 start, with all five wins on the year coming at Schar Center.
• The Phoenix is led by senior guard Marcus Sheffield who is posting 16.9 points per game to go along with 4.9 rebounds and 3.0 assists per contest.
• Rookies Hunter McIntosh and Hunter Woods are combining to average 20.8 points and 8.9 rebounds per outing.
• Simon Wright ranks second on the team in rebounding at 5.7 per game, adding 7.3 points per game as well.
• Elon is led by first year head coach Mike Schrage, who spent two seasons as an assistant at Ohio State before becoming Elon's head coach.
• Freshman forward Zac Ervin earned the CAA Rookie of the Week award after leading the team in scoring (18 ppg) during a 1-1 week for Elon. Ervin scored a career-high 27 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field, including a career-best 7-of-12 from beyond the arc in the Phoneix's 80-63 win over UNCW.
• Freshman guard Hunter McIntosh garnered CAA Rookie of the Week honors, the league announced on Dec. 16. McIntosh was selected by the conference after scoring a team-high 15 points, while adding three assists, two rebounds and two steals in Elon's dominant 91-60 win over North Carolina Wesleyan. McIntosh was on fire all game, going 5-of-5 from downtown in a contest that saw Elon tie a Division I program record with 19 made threes.
• Freshman forward Hunter Woods was named the CAA Rookie of the Week on Dec. 9. Woods earned the honor after averaging 16.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in games against Kennesaw State and High Point.
• Ervin joined fellow freshmen Hunter Woods and Hunter McIntosh, as they became the first trio of Elon freshman to each earn a Rookie of the Week award in the same season. 
• This marks the first time that the CAA has had three different freshmen from the same team each win a Rookie of the Week Award in the same season since Charleston in 2015-16, and seventh overall since the conference began announcing the award in 2002-03.
• Woods and McIntosh became the first pair of Elon freshman to win the conference Rookie of the Week award in back-to-back weeks.
• The Phoenix have no seniors on the roster with the exception of graduate transfer Marcus Sheffield, who earned a Preseason All-CAA honorable mention.
• Additionally, the Phoenix made six new additions to the squad for 2019-20 in first-year players Hunter McIntosh, Hunter Woods, Zac Ervin and Ben Daugherty, while also adding two transfers in Marcus Sheffield (Stanford) and Jerald Gillens-Butler (Butler).
 
SCOUTING DREXEL
• The Dragons are off to a 10-8 start this season, after defeating James Madison 78-71 in their most recent outing
• Drexel is in its fourth season under head coach Zach Spiker, who served as the head coach at Army for seven seasons prior to becoming the head coach at Drexel.
• The Dragons are led by Camren Wynter, who leads the team in scoring (14.7 ppg) and assists (5.4 apg). James Butler has also made major contributions for the Dragons, averaging a double-double (12.1 ppg / 11.8 rpg).
  
LAST TIME OUT
• The Phoenix earned its first CAA win of the season after defeating UNCW, 80-63, on Saturday, Jan. 11.
• Elon was led by freshman forward Zac Ervin, who dropped a career-high 27 points while knocking down seven threes on the evening. Freshman guard Hunter McIntosh chipped in 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
