ELON, N.C. – Elon University men's basketball will be back in action on Thursday, Jan. 9, to continue CAA play against Charleston.

COVERAGE
• Elon's contest against Charleston will be streamed live on FloSports.
• Listen to the Elon IMG Sports Network coverage on Phoenix All-Access or on the TuneIn app. Taylor Durham and Brian Morris will have the call from Scahr Center, with the pregame show beginning at 6:30 p.m.

THE MATCHUP
• This marks the 29th time in program history that Elon will take on Charleston
• In the most recent meeting, the Cougars defeated the Phoenix 84-74 on Feb. 23, 2019.
• Elon trails Charleston 7-21 in the overall series.
 
ABOUT ELON
• So far this season, Elon is off to a 4-12 start, with all four wins on the year coming at Schar Center.
• The Phoenix is led by senior guard Marcus Sheffield who is posting 16.9 points per game to go along with 4.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists per contest.
• Rookies Hunter McIntosh and Hunter Woods are combining to average 21.3 points and 8.6 rebounds per outing.
• Simon Wright ranks second on the team in rebounding at 5.4 per game, adding 6.6 points per game as well.
• Elon is led by first year head coach Mike Schrage, who spent two seasons as an assistant at Ohio State before becoming Elon's head coach.
• Freshman Guard Hunter McIntosh garnered CAA Rookie of the Week honors, the league announced on Dec. 16. McIntosh was selected by the conference after scoring a team-high 15 points, while adding three assists, two rebounds and two steals in Elon's dominant 91-60 win over North Carolina Wesleyan. McIntosh was on fire all game, going 5-of-5 from downtown in a contest that saw Elon tie a Division I program record with 19 made threes.
• Freshman forward Hunter Woods was named the CAA Rookie of the Week on Dec. 9. Woods earned the honor after averaging 16.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in games against Kennesaw State and High Point.
• Woods and McIntosh became the first pair of Elon freshman to win the conference Rookie of the Week award in back-to-back weeks.
• The Phoenix have no seniors on the roster with the exception of graduate transfer Marcus Sheffield, who earned a Preseason All-CAA honorable mention.
• Additionally, the Phoenix made six new additions to the squad for 2019-20 in first-year players Hunter McIntosh, Hunter Woods, Zac Ervin and Ben Daugherty, while also adding two transfers in Marcus Sheffield (Stanford) and Jerald Gillens-Butler (Butler).
 
SCOUTING CHARLESTON
• The Cougars are off to an 10-6 start this season, after defeating to James Madison 85-69 in its most recent outing
• Charleston is in its sixth season under head coach Earl Grant, who led the team to CAA Tournament Championship and NCAA March Madness Tournament appearance following the 2018 season.
• The Cougars are led by Grant Riller, who leads the team in scoring (22.2 ppg) and assists (3.8 apg), while chipping in 5.1 rebounds per outing as well.
  
LAST TIME OUT
• In its most recent outing, Elon fell to Hofstra 102-75.
• The Phoenix was led by senior guard Marcus Sheffield, who dropped 17 points, six assists and four rebounds on the evening. Freshman forward Zac Ervin chipped in 17 points and three rebounds in the loss.
 

UP NEXT
Following the contest against Charleston, Elon will continue CAA play against UNCW. The Phoenix's matchup with the Seahawks will take place at Schar Center on Saturday, Jan. 11, at 4 p.m.
