Women’s Basketball Hosts UNCG in Final Home Game of 2020 Friday

ELON, N.C.— Elon University women's basketball will be taking on UNCG in its final home contest of the calendar year on Friday, Dec. 18 at 7 p.m.

COVERAGE
Fans can listen to the game on WSOE 89.3 FM. The game will also be streamed on FloHoops.
 
THE MATCHUP
-The Spartans lead the overall series, 25-20.
-Elon won the most recent matchup (87-50), which took place inside Alumni Gym on Feb. 1, 2014.
 
SCOUTING THE PHOENIX
-Elon (3-1) extended its win streak against Furman to four on Sunday, Dec. 13 when it defeated the Paladins in its home opener, 72-64. 
-Three Elon players finished the game with double-figure scoring. Evonna McGill and Kayla Liles led the way with 17 apiece, while Ariel Colón chipped in 10. McGill's total in addition to her field goals (6) mark new personal bests while in a maroon and gold uniform. 
-Liles posted game-bests in both assists (5) and steals (7). Her steals total is also a new career high, which previously stood at six, which came in the first game of the CAA Championship on March 11, 2020 against Hofstra. 
-The Phoenix was picked to finish fourth in the CAA preseason poll. Colón was named a second team honoree, while junior Brie Perpignan was named honorable mention.
-Elon is led by tenth year head coach Charlotte Smith. Her coaching record at Elon currently stands at 165-123, just eight wins away from breaking the program record for all-time wins.
 
SCOUTING UNCG
-The Spartans come into the game with a 1-5 record on the season.
-UNCG earned its first win of the season on Dec. 14 when it defeated local rival North Carolina A&T, 49-46. CeCe Crudup led the Spartans with 16 points and eight rebounds, with Tori Powell following with 12 points. Khalis Cain also totaled eight points and seven boards.
-The Spartans were picked to finish fourth in the preseason Southern Conference (SoCon) Media Poll and fifth in the SoCon Coaches Poll. Aja Boyd earned preseason all-conference honors.

-The Phoenix faces N.C. A&T in its final matchup of 2020 on Sunday, Dec. 20. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
