Phoenix Prepares For Senior Day Matchup With Drexel

ELON, N.C. – Elon University men's basketball will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 15, to round out its final home weekend of the season against CAA foe Drexel. Sunday also marks Senior Day for guards Marcus Sheffield and Seth Fuller.

THE MATCHUP
- This marks the 14th time in program history that Elon will take on Drexel
- In the most recent meeting, Drexel defeated Elon, 63-41, on Jan. 16, 2020.
- Drexel currently holds the advantage over Elon in the all-time series, 7-6
 
ABOUT ELON
- Elon currently ranks first in the CAA and 11th nationally in 3-point field goals made per game at 10.0, and have the fourth most made threes (269) in the NCAA this season. The Phoneix also ranks third in the CAA in 3-point FG percentage (36.0).
- Following Thursday's loss, Elon now sits at 3-1 in the month of February
- Victories over UNCW and Charleston gave Elon its first road sweep and longest winning streak (W3) of the season.
- The Phoenix's 19 made threes against N.C. Wesleyan is tied for the 10th most in a single game in the NCAA this season.
- The Phoenix currently ranks third in the CAA in assists per game (13.3) and first in assist to turnover ratio (1.1).
- Elon ranks third the CAA in defensive rebound percentage at 75.8%
- Freshman guard Hunter McIntosh ranks ninth in the CAA in assists per game (2.9), while freshman forward Hunter Woods ranks ninth in rebounds per game (6.2)
- The Phoenix is led by senior guard Marcus Sheffield who ranks seventh in the CAA in scoring is at 18.3 points per game.
- Sheffield's first made basket against Delaware (Feb. 13) moved him past 1,000 points for his career
- Sheffield was named the CAA Player of the Week on Monday, Feb. 10, after leading Elon in scoring (24.5 ppg) and rebounding (10 rpg) during a 2-0 week. Sheffield dropped a season-high 31 points and 12 rebounds against Charleston, while posting 18 points and eight rebounds against UNCW.
- Freshman guard Hunter McIntosh was named the CAA Rookie of the Week for the second time this season after scoring a career-high 24 points on 8-of-9 shooting in Elon's 74-60 win over Northeastern.
- Freshman forward Zac Ervin earned the CAA Rookie of the Week award after leading the team in scoring (18 ppg) during a 1-1 week for Elon. Ervin scored a career-high 27 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field, including a career-best 7-of-12 from beyond the arc in the Phoenix's 80-63 win over UNCW.
- Freshman guard Hunter McIntosh garnered CAA Rookie of the Week honors, the league announced on Dec. 16. McIntosh was selected by the conference after scoring a team-high 15 points, while adding three assists, two rebounds and two steals in Elon's dominant 91-60 win over North Carolina Wesleyan.
- Freshman forward Hunter Woods was named the CAA Rookie of the Week on Dec. 9. Woods earned the honor after averaging 16.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in games against Kennesaw State and High Point.
- This marks the first time that the CAA has had three different freshmen from the same team each win a Rookie of the Week Award in the same season since Charleston in 2015-16, and seventh overall since the conference began announcing the award in 2002-03.
- Woods and McIntosh became the first pair of Elon freshman to win the conference Rookie of the Week award in back-to-back weeks.
- Following Sheffield's 24 points performance Thursday, he now has 16 consecutive double-digit scoring efforts and 24 overall this season
- McIntosh's 14 points on Thursday night marked the 14th double-figure scoring effort for the freshman this season
 
SCOUTING DREXEL
- The Dragons are off to a 13-13 start this season, after falling to William & Mary, 77-72, on Thursday night
- Drexel is in its fourth season under head coach Zach Spiker, who served as the head coach at Army West Point before becoming the head coach at Drexel
- The Dragons are led by Cameron Wynter, who leads the team in scoring at 15.7 points per game
- Drexel currently sits in the seventh spot in the CAA standings, posting a 6-7 record in 13 conference games so far this season
  
LAST TIME OUT
- Elon University men's basketball dropped a close one to Delaware, 81-75, on Feb. 13, behind a late 7-0 run by the Blue Hens. 
- Senior guard Marcus Sheffield continued his strong play as of late, posting 24 points, six rebounds and six assists on 9-of-18 shooting from the floor. Freshman guard Hunter McIntosh chipped in 14 points, five assists and four rebounds in the loss.

UP NEXT
Following the contest against Delaware, Elon will remain at home to continue CAA play against Drexel. The Phoenix's matchup with the Dragons will take place on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 4 p.m.
