ROBERTS WITH THE BIG BAT
Elon found itself trailing 8-2 midway through the eighth inning of Sunday's rubber match with Illinois. However, the Phoenix started to rally as the first three batters in the bottom of the frame walked to load the bases. After the next batter reached on an error by the Illini pitcher to score a run and keep the bags full, Roberts drove the first pitch he saw over the wall in right field, pulling the maroon and gold to within a run at 8-7. It marked his second career long ball and his first of the season. It was also the first grand slam for the Phoenix since Tyler Stanley hit one in the series finale at Towson on April 7 last season. Later in the inning, Stanley represented the tying run and advanced to third, but Elon was unable to bring him home and Illinois held on for the win.
