Phoenix Cross Country Heads to Florida State for NCAA Pre-Nationals

ELON, N.C. – In their final meet of the regular season, the Elon University men's and women's cross country programs are set to compete at the 2021 NCAA Pre-Nationals meet on Friday, Oct. 15. The Florida State-hosted meet will take place at the Apalachee Regional Park.
 
The Phoenix women open the meet in the women's Garnet 6K race at 8:35 a.m. while the maroon and gold men follow in the men's open 8K at 9:10 a.m.

About the Meet
• Elon is one of 34 programs that are scheduled to race in the women's Garnet race. All 34 teams are ranked in the top-15 in their respective regions. The Phoenix will be the lone school from the Colonial Athletic Association competing in the Garnet 6K.
• The men's open 8K race will feature 41 total programs that will be represented by at least one runner.
• The meet is a preview of the NCAA Championships, which will be held at the same venue in November for any athlete or team that qualifies.
 
Last Time Out
• Elon last raced at the Chanticleer Challenge on Friday, Oct. 1, hosted by Coastal Carolina University.
• Both the Phoenix men's and women's teams were the runner-up in their respective races. The Elon women scored 58 points, trailing only Wake Forest in the 5K race. The maroon and gold men had its best team finish of the season, coming in second with 67 points while Charleston Southern won the meet with 22 points.
Maria Ahm was the overall runner-up in the women's 5K, clocking a time of 17:45.5 to lead the Phoenix women. Maggie Springer also finished in the top-five of the race for Elon as the Chapel Hill, N.C., native ran a time of 18:01.4.
Aidan Tierney paced the Elon men for the third straight meet as the junior ran a time of 26:00.9 and was ninth overall.
Zane Jackson finished outside the top-10 with an 11th-place standing and a time of 26:20.0. Cameron Dunn was right behind him with a time of 26:30.3 in 12th.
 
On Deck
Elon heads into the postseason portion of its schedule as the Phoenix heads to the CAA Championships on Saturday, Oct. 30, hosted by Northeastern.
