Phoenix at Home Against the Seahawks This Weekend

ELON, N.C. – Elon University volleyball rounds out its home stand with a CAA series versus UNCW this Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 16-17 at Schar Center. Sunday's match marks Senior Day for the Phoenix (11-7, 6-2 CAA), and the team will recognize seniors Kellyn Trowse, Julia Crabtree, Natalie Cummins and Ashlee Brackett before first serve.

ABOUT THE PHOENIX
- Elon split its CAA series with James Madison last weekend at Schar Center. After the Dukes took the first meeting 3-2 on Saturday, the Phoenix responded with a straight-set victory on Sunday.
- With Towson falling in five sets at Charleston on Sunday, Elon is back atop the league standings.
- Four of Elon's six conference wins have come against teams that played in last spring's CAA Championship tournament.
- The latest RPI rankings, which reflects matches through Oct. 10, has the Phoenix at No. 69. JMU is a few spots ahead of the maroon and gold at No. 62, and Towson is listed at No. 82. UNCW enters the weekend ranked at No. 322.
- Leah Daniel leads Elon with 287.5 points and 264 kills this season. Sydney Love is next with 153 kills, Jenn Krzeminski is up to 109 kills, and Cummins owns 100. Haylie Clark owns 613 assists and is tied with Alex VanWestrienen and Krzeminski for the team-high in service aces with 20. Jordan Gower anchors the back row with 284 digs, followed by VanWestrienen with 124, Trowse with 121 and Clark at 119. At the net, Krzeminski and Cummins have recorded 75 and 52 blocks, respectively.
- Through matches on Oct. 14, Daniel ranks 36th in the nation in kills per set with 4.12, 39th in total kills, and 49th in attacks per set at 10.89. Clark leads the conference with 9.58 assists per set and is second with 613 total assists. Gower is second in the league with 4.44 digs per set, while Krzeminski ranks third in the CAA in hitting percentage (.349) and blocks per set (1.19).
- As a team, the Phoenix ranks second in the CAA in hitting percentage (.242) and kills per set (12.62), is third in assists per set (11.53) and fourth in blocks per set (2.12).
 
THE SERIES
- UNCW is ahead in the all-time series, 24-17. However, Elon has won the past two meetings.
- The teams last met on March 6-7 this past spring inside Schar Center. After defeating the Seahawks in five sets in the first match, the Phoenix picked up a 3-1 victory in the second.
- Elon had three double-double efforts that Saturday: Clark posted 22 assists with 10 kills, Kodi Garcia ended up with 19-assists and 11 digs, and Daniel scored a team-high 19 kills with 10 digs.
- In the second match, Clark came close to a triple-double with 21 assists, 11 kills and eight digs.
- It marked the first time since 1999 that Elon defeated UNCW twice in one season and also opened a five-match win streak as the Phoenix followed with wins over UNCG, Davidson and James Madison.

SCOUTING UNCW
- The Seahawks are eighth in the CAA standings with a 2-15 record overall and a 1-5 mark in league play.
- UNCW was picked to finish eighth in the CAA Preseason Coaches' Poll with 17 points. Kirsten Badowski garnered Honorable Mention honors.
- UNCW's wins include a 3-1 decision against North Alabama on Aug. 28 and a 3-1 victory against Northeastern on Oct. 2 as the Seahawks split their CAA series with the Huskies.
- UNCW is looking to snap a three-match skid after a five-set loss to Northeastern on Oct. 3 and a pair of losses to Delaware on Oct. 9-10.
- The Seahawk attack is led by Katie Lanz (170 kills) and Brianna Haggerty (148 kills). Claire Sawyer is the primary setter with 371 assists and Annabelle Schall is next with 152 assists. Ashley Thompson and Haggerty are the top servers for UNCW with 18 and 13 aces, respectively. Quinn Manley leads the defensive effort with 204 digs, and Brooke Hanshumaker has made a team-best 39 blocks.

- Elon will travel to Boston, Mass. on Oct. 23-24 for a pair of CAA matches at Northeastern.
