ELON, N.C. – On Wednesday, Nov. 10, Elon University men's basketball and head coach
Mike Schrage announced the signing of Nicholas Martinelli.
"Nick is somebody we believe can especially impact our program immediately," Schrage began. "He brings great versatility, toughness, and so many qualities that equate to winning. He comes from a competitive basketball family and has a tremendous love for the game. We really appreciate him and his family's belief in us and their commitment to our program."
As a junior under head coach Phil Raston, Martinelli averaged 21.8 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists while shooting 67 percent from the floor and 58 percent from three-point range. Martinelli, the #4 ranked prospect in Illinois by Illinois Hoop Prospects, has been selected to the First Team All-State, Class 4A Second Team, Class 4A All-State Team, 2021 All-Area Team and the Central Suburban League All-Conference Team during his time at Glenbrook South.
In his AAU career, Martinelli played for Fundamental U before playing for MeanStreets most recently. The EYBL All-Breakout Team honoree has been selected to the Illinois 17U All-AAU First Team by Underdog Sports and was named as the #4 most efficient scorer at the Peach Jam by Synergy Basketball.
Martinelli is set to join the Phoenix men's basketball program in the fall of 2022.
