Elon Set To Host Bluefield At Schar Center Sunday

ELON, N.C. – Elon University men's basketball is set to host Bluefield on Sunday, Nov. 14, at Schar Center. The matchup is slated for a 2 p.m. tip.

THE MATCHUP
- Sunday afternoon marks the fifth meeting between Elon and Bluefield in program history.
- The Phoenix currently leads the all-time series 3-1.
- Bluefield defeated Elon, 65-63, in the most recent contest between the two programs in 2004-05.

TICKET INFORMATION
A reminder for Phoenix fans that season tickets are on sale now. Courtside season tickets are on sale for $210, Combo tickets are available for $190 and Club-level seats can be purchased for $335. General season tickets are also on sale for $170 (men's). Fans can purchase season tickets by visiting ElonTickets.com. Premium parking spaces are also available on a season-long basis through the Elon Ticket Office. SCOUTING ELON
- The Phoenix set a program record for points at Schar Center (107), threes made (20) and assists (27) in Friday night's win over Randolph.
- Elon is led by junior guard and Preseason All-CAA First Team honoree Hunter McIntosh, who leads the team in scoring at 15.0 ppg.
- Sophomore center Michael Graham ranks second on the team in scoring (12.5 ppg), while leading the team in rebounding (9.5 rpg).
- Torrence Watson is tied for the team lead in steals (1.5 spg) and tied for second on the team in scoring with 12.5 ppg.
- CAA All-Rookie honoree Darius Burford currently leads the team in assists (3.0 apg), adding 8.5 ppg as well.
- Junior forward Zac Ervin is averaging 9.0 ppg and 4.0 rpg through the first two games this season. Ervin has made a team-high six threes while shooting 50 percent from beyond the arc.
- Junior forward Hunter Woods is tied for the team lead in steals (1.5 spg), blocks (1.0 bpg) and assists (3.0 apg), while ranking second on the team in rebounds (5.5 rpg). Woods is also averaging 9.0 points per contest.
- Freshman center Sam Sherry has gotten his Elon career off to a solid start, averaging 6.0 points, 2.5 assists and 2.0 rebounds in about 14 minutes of action per game.
- Center Andrew Junkin blocked two shots in his Elon debut against Florida.
- Elon currently ranks first in the CAA in three-point percentage (47.2) and threes made (25), while ranking second in free throws made (27), threes-made per game (12.5), total assists (37) and total blocks (9).
- Seniors Chuck Hannah (2.9 ppg, 2.8 rpg in 2020-21) and Kris Wooten (9.0 ppg, 75% 3PT) will serve as the team captains for the 2021-22 season as they enter their fourth year at Elon.
- Elon enters this year with the most experienced group during Schrage's tenure, bolstering a roster with 10 upperclassmen.
- This season marks the third for Head Coach Mike Schrage at the helm of the Elon program.
 
SCOUTING BLUEFIELD
- Bluefield enters the contest with a 3-1 overall record after winning their previous two games against Columbia International University and Reinhardt University respectively.
- Richard Morgan is in the midst of his 13th season as the head coach of the Rams' program. Morgan has compiled a 183-187 record in his 13 seasons.
- The Rams are led by senior guard Jermiah Jenkins, who leads the team in scoring at 18.3 ppg. Bluefield has also gotten major contributions from Rob Littlejohn (18.0 ppg, 7.8 rpg) and Volante Carroll (11.8 ppg, 7.8 rpg) who are tied for the team-lead in rebounding, while ranking second and third in scoring, respectively.
 
LAST TIME OUT
- Elon scored its most points at Schar Center in program history, securing a 107-62 victory over Randolph in its home opener on Friday, Nov. 12.
- The Phoenix set a program record with 20 made threes, tied a program record with 27 assists and had five players score at least 15 points.
- Kris Wooten led the way for the Phoenix, matching a career-high with 18 points and six made threes, adding three assists in 23 minutes of action.
- Hunter McIntosh chipped in 15 points, three assists and two rebounds in a team-high 28 minutes. McIntosh has now scored at least 10 points in 36 of his 55 career games at Elon.
- Hunter Woods dropped 15 points and seven rebounds, while leading the team in assists (5) and blocks (2) in 25 minutes played.
- Torrence Watson and Zac Ervin each scored 15 points, finishing the night a combined 8-of-12 from three.
- Michael Graham followed up his strong game against Florida with a nine points and 10 rebound outing against Randolph on Friday night.
- Darius Burford finished with eight points, five rebounds, four assists and one block on the night.
- Sam Sherry posted a career-best nine points and five assists, also grabbing three rebounds in 21 minutes.
- Freshman RJ Noord made his Elon debut, grabbing four rebounds and a steal in 13 minutes.
- Elon held Randolph to 30 percent shooting from the floor and 28.6 percent shooting from beyond the arc in the second half.
- The Phoenix held a 45-13 advantge in bench points, a 20-4 advantage in fast breaks and a 30-14 advantage in points in the paint.
- The Phoenix won by at least 40-points for the first time since beating Milligan 95-54 in 2019 - Schrage's first year with the program.
- Elon is now 3-0 in home openers under Schrage.
 
THE FACES OF 2021-22
- Elon returns four starters in Chuck Hannah, Hunter Woods, All-CAA Second Team honoree Hunter McIntosh and CAA All-Rookie selection Darius Burford.
- Other returnees for the Phoenix includes seniors Jerald Gillens-Butler, Kris Wooten and Charlie Mendys, juniors Ben Daugherty and Zac Ervin, and sophomores Michael Graham and JaDun Michael.
-Additionally, the maroon and gold welcomes five newcomers to the squad in Mizzou transfer Torrence Watson, Mississippi State transfer Andrew Junkin and freshmen RJ Noord, Sam Sherry and Reece Clark.
 
CAA PRESEASON POLL
- The Colonial Athletic Association announced its preseason poll on Thursday, Oct. 28, with Elon tabbed to finish sixth.
- The Phoenix had two student-athletes earn preseason all-conference honors in Hunter McIntosh (1st Team) and Jerald Gillens-Butler (Honorable Mention).
- Elon earned a total of 202 points in the poll, including one first-place vote.
- Delaware was chosen as the preseason favorite with 296 points and 19 first-place votes, followed by Northeastern with 246 points and seven first-place votes. Drexel (234 points; five first-place votes), James Madison (224 points, three first-place votes) and Hofstra (211 points; one first-place vote) rounded out the top five.
 
COMING SOON
- Elon is set to host Bluefield at Schar Center on Nov. 14, at 2 p.m.
- Following that contest, the Phoenix is slated to open the Charleston Classic on Thursday, Nov. 18, against West Virginia.
- The Phoenix begins day two of the Charleston Classic with a bout against either Marquette or Ole Miss on Nov. 19.
