Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Elon Falls At UNCG On Tuesday Night

ELON, N.C. – Elon University men's basketball fell to UNCG, 74-61, on Tuesday, Nov. 30, at the Greensboro Coliseum.

"We need to be better on both ends but especially defensively," head coach Mike Schrage began. "You can't get to that first timeout and the other team already has double-digit points. When we've had success these first few years that hasn't been us as a team. So we just need to live, learn, and grow, and get a lot better quickly."

THE RUNDOWN
- UNCG jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first three minutes, but Elon battled back to cut it to four with 13:14 remaining in the opening half. Hunter Woods got the Phoenix on the board with his triple at the 16:42 mark, before Torrence Watson drained his first three of the day to cut the deficit to six. After another three for Woods cut it to five, UNCG hit two free throws before Watson made his second triple to bring Elon within 16-12 with 13:14 to play until halftime.
- The Phoenix used a 7-2 run late in the first half to cut the deficit to as little as three. Back-to-back scores by Andrew Junkin and Hunter McIntosh brought Elon within four, before Darius Burford capped the spurt by knocking down his lone triple of the contest. The bucket made the score 26-23 with just under six minutes before the break.
- UNCG finished the half on a 7-0 run to take a 39-25 lead into halftime.
- After falling behind by 16 early in the second half, Elon fought back on the strength of a 7-0 run. Sam Sherry got things rolling on the spurt, drilling his first collegiate three with 13:32 remaining in the game. After a steal and dunk by Woods got Elon within 11, Sherry culminated the run with a tough score in the paint.
- UNCG pushed its lead back up to 15 with just over two minutes to play, but back-to-back threes by Woods and Watson got the Phoenix back within nine. The Spartans knocked down 6-of-7 free throws down the stretch to seal the game.
