Elon Set To Host Methodist At Piedmont Indoor Courts On Wednesday

ELON, N.C. – Elon University women's tennis returns to action tomorrow, March 31, when it hosts Methodist at 2:30 p.m. at Piedmont Indoor Courts in Greensboro, N.C.
 
THE SERIES
- Elon and Methodist will meet for the third time in program history on Wednesday, with Elon leading the all-time series 2-0.
- The Phoenix defeated the Monarchs, 6-0, in their most recent meeting on Feb. 8, 2020.   
 
ABOUT THE PHOENIX
- Elon is off to an 11-4 start to the season after falling to James Madison, 6-1, in its most recent outing.
- The Phoenix is currently 7-2 in matches played at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center this season and 4-1 in road contests.
- Freshman Lizette Reding has started the season off hot, going 12-2 through the first 14 singles matches of her career. Reding also holds an 9-1 record in No. 3 singles so far this season.
- Junior Victoria Saldh is off to an 11-3 start in singles play this season, while posting a 7-2 record in the No. 1 slot.
- Olivia Archer picked up her sixth win of the season against Longwood, and now has a 6-3 record in singles play overall this season.  
- Alison O'Dea sits at 7-3 in singles play so far, posting a 5-2 record in the No. 6 slot.
- The combination of Victoria Saldh and Sofia Edo lead the team with nine doubles wins on the year.
- Alison O'Dea and Lizette Reding have posted a 7-4 record in doubles play after winning three of their last four doubles matches against Towson, UNCW and Longwood respectively.
- Elon returns six athletes from last year's squad for the 2021 season in Sofia Edo, Olivia Archer, Victoria Saldh, Shauna Galvin, Kiana Rizzolo and Uma Nayar. Elon also added East Carolina transfer Sibel Tanik, as well as freshmen Alison O'Dea and Lizette Reding to the team.
- The Phoenix is led by seventeenth-year head coach Elizabeth Anderson.
 
SCOUTING METHODIST
- Methodist is led by head coach John Blackburn, who is in his sixth season at the helm of the women's tennis program.
- The Monarchs are off to a 4-9 start to the season after falling to Sweet Briar College, 5-4, in its most recent contest.
- Toni Laney is leading the way for Methodist, posting a 5-2 record in singles play. Laney also leads the team with a 5-3 mark in doubles play so far this season.

UP NEXT
- Elon returns to action on Saturday, April 3, to take on William & Mary. That matchup is slated for 2 p.m. at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center on Elon's campus.
