Elon Set To Open 2021 CAA Tournament Against Towson On Saturday

ELON, N.C. – Elon University men's basketball opens the 2021 Hercules Tires CAA Championship on Saturday, March 6, against Towson. Tipoff in the contest is slated for 3 p.m. at the Atlantic Union Bank Center on the campus of James Madison, in Harrisonburg, Va.
 
COVERAGE

- Elon's game against Towson will be streamed live on FloSports.

THE MATCHUP
- This marks the 14th time that Elon and Towson will meet in program history, with the Phoenix trailing in the series 8-5.
- In their most recent meeting, Towson defeated Elon, 84-71, in Towson, Md. on Feb. 22, 2020.

ABOUT ELON
- Elon is led by sophomore guard Hunter McIntosh, who leads the team in scoring (15.5 ppg), adding 2.9 rpg.
- Sophomore forward Hunter Woods leads the team in rebounding (6.8 rpg) and is fifth on the team in scoring (7.7 ppg).
- Guards Ikenna Ndugba and Darius Burford are combining to average 17.9 ppg and 7.7 rpg.
- In its most recent outing, Elon defeated William & Mary, 73-54, to earn its third straight CAA win.
- Darius Burford led the way for the Phoenix, posting 23 points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals in a career-high 37 minutes of action.
- Hunter McIntosh added 17 points and five rebounds, knocking down three triples along the way.
- Ikenna Ndugba chipped in 13 points, nine rebounds and four assists in the win.
- Kris Wooten scored 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from three, including the game-winning shot at the buzzer.
- Following the win against UNCW, Elon has now won four consecutive games to close a season for the first time since 2002-03.
-This also marks the first time in Division I program history that the Phoenix has won three straight road games to end the regular season.
- Following its three-point win over UNCW, the Phoenix has now won a season-best four straight games.
- Following its win against Campbell, the Phoenix earned its first 3-0 start to a season in Division I program history.
- Elon's win over N.C. Wesleyan made Schrage the first Elon coach since Bob Burton in 1987-88 to win his first two season openers.

SCOUTING TOWSON
- Pat Skerry is in the midst of his 10th season at the helm of the Towson program after spending one season as an assistant coach at Pittsburgh.
- Towson finished regular season play with a 4-13 overall record, after beating Northeastern, 68-57, in its most recent outing. 
- The Tigers are led by Zane Marting, who currently averages 16.5 ppg and 3.8 rpg. Towson has also gotten major contributions from Nicolas Timberlake, who is posting 11.9 ppg and 4.0 rpg this season.
- This will be Towson's first game since February 14.

CAA TOURNAMENT INFO
- The 2020-21 CAA Tournament will be held at the Entertainment and Sports Arena in Washington, D.C. from March 6-9.
- After finishing the season with four-straight conference wins, Elon will enter the tournament as an eight-seed and take on ninth-seeded Towson on Saturday, March 6, at 3 p.m. The winner of that contest will return to action the following day, March 7, for a 2:30 p.m. matchup with top-seeded James Madison.
- All games in the first round and quarterfinals will be streamed live on FloHoops.com.
- The semifinal games of the CAA Men's Basketball Championship are set for 6 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Monday, with the two winners facing off for the conference title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 9. The semifinal games and championship game will air nationally on CBS Sports Network.
- There will be no public sale of tickets for the Hercules Tires CAA Men's Basketball Championship. Attendance at the championship will be limited to families and guests of student-athletes and coaches.
